Wall Hangings

On the wall next to where I have my morning coffee (yes, you read right…coffee), I have two decorative hangings. Each one is comprised of three words in artsy font and a flower to give it that eye appealing touch.
I purchased them initially because the framing caught my eye. But then I realized that I also like the message portrayed by each word. I want to glance at these words each morning... perhaps they’ll stick with me the rest of the day:

Solitudethe quality or state of being alone. Henri Nouwen, a Dutch Catholic priest and author, has much to say about solitude. Here’s one of my favorites … “it is in solitude we discover that our life is not a possession to be defended, but a gift to be shared.” Enough said!
Harmonyinternal calm. I don’t even think I have to expound on that definition! Let's grab onto this one!
Peace - freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions. This definition doesn’t mean that we won’t experience being disquieted, or having oppressive thoughts or emotions. We would be less than human if that were the case. However, being free from the negative effects of these is certainly something to strive for.

Inspire - to draw forth or bring out. Haven’t we all had a teacher that we felt was inspiring? What did that do for us? It made us want to learn! Made us want to do our best! Drew M. just posted a segment on his blog http://ftrekker.blogspot.com/ about an inspiring teacher. A hard class, but stimulating. I’m sure Drew will walk away from that class with knowledge that will last a lifetime.
We are all something to somebody… a parent, or a child, a friend, or a neighbor. Wouldn’t it be great if we were an inspiration to those around us, even in a small way. To “draw forth or bring out” the best in that person. People who I see putting grocery carts in their proper place in parking lots inspired me. For some reason, I hated to take those extra steps, but I admired people who did. I now make that extra effort.
Wishto have a desire. Who has not wished on “the first star I see tonight”, or thrown a penny in a well, or closed their eyes to make that secret request just before blowing out those candles. The world is a better place because of wishes…..because sometimes they do come true!
Believe - to consider to be true or honest. The first thing that came to mind was the "Apostles' Creed"....I believe in one God. Yes, I do. Also, I have other things that I consider to be true and honest in my life: family, friends. And these qualities I want in my own life so that those around me can believe in me.

So, yes, I do want to glance at these words each day; have them soak into my being.

And...
I WISH for each of you that you in your SOLITUDE you find a sense of HARMONY, and that the PEACE that passes all understanding INSPIREs you to BELIEVE!
